The Line: Miami Heat (+135) vs. Boston Celtics (-155)
This Eastern Conference Finals has been competitive but the Heat have continued to find a way to win close games. Leading the Celtics 3-1 in this series and no sign of slowing down. This game-five has the Celtics facing elimination. With their backs against the wall Celtics will turn to their star-players.
For the Heat they have the advantage from behind the three-point line. Tyler Herro dropped 37 points off the bench. Shooting 5-10 from behind the arc last time out. A heck of a game-four performance. If the Heat go on to win this series tonight or later on; we can all look back to Tyler Herro’s game-four performance as the turning point in the series.
I can’t help but feel like the Celtics aren’t done yet. If head coach Brad Stevens can get his team to focus on what got them this far; they can beat the Heat tonight. The Celtics have no choice but to be the more physical team in the paint, and close out on Miami’s spot-up shooters. If the Celtics can get to the stripe often tonight, and contain Jimmy Butler they will be in a good position to win.
Miami won’t be looking to allow this series to see another game. Head Coach Erik Spoelstra will continue to encourage the hot hands to shoot. Duncan Robinson has been awfully quiet. Could he be in store for a big game? Goran Dragic was the talk of the town recently. Could we see him put it all on display in this game? The point I am making is Miami has been hard to defend in this series. Harder for Brad Stevens to prepare for than Erik Spoelstra. Not only are we watching a fun match-up on the court. There is a battle of the minds being had on the bench. Tonight we will see which coach makes the better adjustments and gives their team more opportunities to pull away.
Both teams will be letting shots go from deep tonight expect their to be a lot of points scored. The Over 213 is set low in my opinion. This game has the potential of reaching overtime. Expect the Celtics to feed Jayson Tatum all night in order to keep pace with the Heat. Tatum has been difficult to guard for Miami. Also the Celtics will need Marcus Smart and Gordon Hayward to play bigger minutes in their role positions. For the Heat I do think they will look to Jimmy Butler, to raise his level of play once again to finish off the Celtics. Good news for Jimmy Butler is this may be the best cast of shooters he has ever balled with.
My pick: (Player prop) Jaylen Brown OVER 19.5 Total Points (-120). I want nothing to do with picking a winner in this game. Brown has found his range in the playoffs. He will be playing north of thirty minutes tonight. Plenty of time to cash the over for us. In Brown’s last five games he has cleared 19.5 points four times. Brown is great at slashing the lane and getting to the stripe. He also has a nice jumper and long-range shot that makes me feel confident in this player prop tonight.
