Overeem vs. Sakai – Alistair Overeem is a legend in the sport of MMA. He has fought the biggest and baddest fighters in the sport. Tonight he gets another massive challenge in Augusto Sakai. Sakai has been on a tear. Winning his last 6 bouts. 4 of which by KO/TKO. Both fighters bring power, similar styles, and the ability to finish fights.
The difference in this fight is stamina. Who will be able to land the bigger shots when the pace slows down. Overeem showed me a lot in his last bout almost getting finished and coming back to win against Walt Harris by TKO. Fighting through adversity is something Overeem has done his whole career. The downside with Overeem is 78% of his losses have come by KO/TKO. Augusto Sakai doesn’t wrestle much. Sakai wants to come at you and knock you out. There is no way Overeem gets around brawling with Sakai. That is where I give the advantage to the younger Sakai with less wear on his body. I am not underrating either fighters cardio because both have shown they can go the distance recently in their careers.
My wager: Augusto Sakai ML (+135).
OSP vs. Menifield – Ovince Saint Preux is one of my favorite fighters to ever do this. I have watched OSP reach peaks and valleys in MMA. He is a tough test for anybody. Insert Alonzo Menifield. A heavy handed knockout artist with a great fighting IQ. One thing that stood out immediately is this fight will not go the distance. Menifield has proven he has insane power and solid technique when it comes to striking. OSP is the underdog because of his cardio. He tires later in fights. In his current form he has lost his last 3/4. OSP bumped up to heavyweight in his last fight against Ben Rothwell where OSP lost by Split-decision. I noticed that issue with OSP long ago. I don’t see that changing tonight. Alonzo Menifield has the higher ceiling and the better gas tank.
My wager: Alonzo Menifield (-134).
