UFC Fight Night 175 preview and picks

Great fight card with Anthony Smith vs. Aleksandar Rakic in a light heavyweight bout for the main event. Smith will get his shot at redemption after losing a brutal fight to Glover Teixeira. Aleksandar Rakic is in phenomenal shape and will look to show he is entering his prime with a flawless performance tonight against ‘Lionheart’. This fight will be razor thin close so I have found other wagers for us to make.

Maki Pitolo (+122) vs. Impa Kasanganay (-144). All the intentions to be an awesome fight! Maki Pitolo coming off a defeat to Darren Stewart by a guillotine choke. Pitolo was fighting well against Stewart until he tried a take down out of nowhere but Stewart was ready and landed a flush guillotine. Pitolo’s power is being underrated by the oddsmakers. Great hand speed and footwork to compliment his power as well. He does not want his fights going to decision and tonight he will look to leave his mark in the UFC octagon. Pitolo’s opponent Impa Kasanganay has had a few shots on Dana White’s contender series, winning both those bouts by unanimous decision. I don’t like how Kasanganay’s style matches a high volume high paced fighter like Pitolo, who is looking to make a statement tonight. My pick: Maki Pitolo ML (+122).

Magomed Ankalaev (-335) vs. Ion Cutelaba (+275). Some bad blood in this fight. A rematch to put to rest the awful decision by the referee last time these two beasts went at it. Get ready for fireworks! I can’t fathom a way this fight goes the distance tonight. Last time out both men landed heavy punches on each other. Cutelaba got a tad bit carried away with playing possum and the referee took it for face value, stopping the bout. This time I believe Cutelaba will be more measured in his approach. Avoiding the big shots and setting up his own. Magomed will be no easy task and is the favorite for a reason. Too high of a favorite for my liking. I foresee Magomed playing into Cutelaba’s style of brawling tonight. Cutelaba survives the bull rush from Magomed early on and bears down! My pick: Ion Cutelaba ML (+275).

Ricardo Lamas (-320) vs. Bill Algeo (+260). Lamas is a massive favorite in this fight for good reason. Better record, strength of opponent, and style wise it makes sense. I see Lamas controlling this fight from start to finish. His power will be overwhelming for Algeo to handle. Algeo’s strength is his ability to get you down and submit you. He likes to wear on his opponent but against Lamas that style will have a hard time succeeding. My pick: Fight Not To Go The Distance (-190).
